NSLU2 From Linksys

NSlu2 is a linksys device intended for network sharing usb disks memory sticks.

The product uses an Arm processor and Linux based firmware to provide samba mount sharing, the opensource comunity saw a potential and started to work on an
open source firmware with linux debian crosscompiled allowing the hardware to do much more.

Due the large amount of debian arm packages already on existing the NSLUG comunity began to grow and suddenly apache and almost anything in linux started to pop giving more and more unlimited options of use,  making it a nice small low consumption quiet and simple linux server.

I personally use it as a webserver for many small things and as crawler and search engine for this site based on perlfect search using the apache module perl and php.

But the use of this small giant is unlimited, thanks to ADSL and dyndns you can have a small online appliance with many other functions.

You can see the amount of features visitnig http://openslug.org/ and http://www.nslu2-linux.org/ which are the main comunity pages.

So far I can say that the appliance has been one gem, allowing me to add my printer on my local cloud so I can print whereaver I am.

Enjoy
